Emoticons 101: Those Text-Based Faces

Surprise!  :O! I had no clue how to create those funny little faces made out of symbols, Emoticonsletters and numbers until recently. I still am reluctant to use them, but now that I have an iPhone, I may ;) . So for anybody else who slept through the basic class on emoticons, here are a few to start with:

:)   Means…..I’m happy! The smile is made using the colon (next to letter L) and the parenthesis above the zero.

: D  Means…..I’m really, really happy! This open mouthed smile is made using the colon and a capital D.

: l  Means…..I’m not thrilled. Make this  flat line mouth using the colon and lower case L.

: (  Means…..I’m sad/sorry/disappointed. Make this frowning face using the colon and the parenthesis above the 9.

; ) Means….We’ve got an inside joke!  This wink is made using the semi colon and the parethesis above the zero.

: O Means ….I’m shocked/surprised. This gasping face is made using the colon and a capital O.

<3 Means….I love you! The heart is made with the carat next to the M and the number 3.

Did you notice that the colon is used for eyes? Pretty clever! I plan to learn a few more, so stay tuned for Emoticons 102! Please send me any emoticons that you use!!! :D
