Imaginiff: In Search of Great Games and Puzzles

Lab Notes: Hundreds of games and puzzles were tested for inclusion in Mirth in a Box’s gift baskets and care packages. Few made the cut. We’ll examine the few that did in detail.                                                                                                                                             Pocket0sized version of best selling card game Imaginiff is a perennial best selling board game and beloved by all who play it, but far too large and heavy to include in a gift box. Luckily, Buffalo Games makes a card game version of this classic. We did note that the board game contained 212 cards and the card game only 68(though all different from the board game’s cards) lessening the card game’s shelf life, but hopefully not dimming its appeal. The lab staff and a group of 25 testers were given the portable card game version to see if it could adequately mimic the original. One of the hallmarks of Imaginiff is that people of many different ages and abilities can compete on an even playing field. Our groups reflected that.

Testing: The testers were broken into 6 groups and half were given the original version, the other half the card game. The Mirth in a Box staffers stood near by whilst the games were played and measured and noted enjoyment, frustration, playing times, and satisfaction of each game group.

Our researchers found differences in enjoyment, playing times and satisfaction to be negligible between the board game players and the card game players. Frustration levels were slightly higher in the card game players mostly do to the scorecard being so tiny. Our data was graphed and then charted against size and cost. The card game won handily.

Conclusions: We felt that the card game version of Imaginiff was a perfect component for a gift box of games. Lots of party punch in a small package.

Imaginiff is one of the great games found in Game Night, a rip-snorting gift basket of amusements and diversions found at Mirth in a Box.
